Description
Transmission electron micrographs of sections of tadpole oocyte show the potential for exchange between the nucleus and the cytoplasm at the nuclear envelope. Thin filaments that appear to traverse nuclear pores (arrows) and fold into elliptical aggregations in the cytoplasm have been interpreted as gene products in transit. Micrographs courtesy of Susumu Ito and Edward Eddy, appearing as Figures 153 (upper) and 154 (lower) from Chapter 4 (Nucleus) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. A PDF copy of the accompanying chapter is available on the ASCB's BioEDUCATE website.
